About my Campaign

My name is Summer Hammons, and I’m running for Tribal Council because I believe our people deserve leadership that is bold, grounded, and accountable. I’ve spent years serving our community through the Treaty Rights and Government Affairs lens advocating, building partnerships, and working through complex policy so Tulalip is protected not only today, but for generations to come.

Tulalip is strong. We are builders, protectors, and providers. But I also recognize the real challenges our families face every day housing pressures, healthcare gaps, economic uncertainty, and the need for consistent communication from leadership. I’m not running for a title. I’m running to do the work, to lead with integrity, and to deliver results that our people can feel in their homes, in their services, and in their future!

When elected, I am making five clear promises to the Tulalip people:

First, I will defend our treaty rights and sovereignty with strength and strategy. Our treaty-reserved rights are not symbolic, they are living rights tied to our identity, natural resources, and long-term prosperity. I will continue to fight for strong co-management, protect our fishing and hunting rights, and confront emerging threats before they become irreversible.

Second, I will push for real housing progress that meets the needs of our families. Housing is safety. Housing is stability. I will advocate for practical solutions that reduce overcrowding, expand options, and prioritize those most impacted.

Third, I will champion quality healthcare access for our people. We need to grow our systems that serve members with dignity, efficiency, and culturally-informed care especially for elders, parents, and those managing chronic conditions. I will support investments that strengthen services and improve outcomes.

Fourth, I will elevate education and opportunity across all ages. From GED and career training to higher education and youth development, we must keep creating pathways that build confidence, leadership, and self-sufficiency. Updating HR policies in a manner that help our employees feel valued, part of the team and coached within a career development mindset is important to me.

Fifth, I will lead with transparency and real communication. Our people deserve leaders who listen, report back, and stay consistent. I will advocate for clearer updates, stronger community engagement, and decision-making that reflects membership priorities.

I bring lived experience, policy expertise, and a fearless commitment to Tulalip. I am ready to serve with discipline, humility, and strength.

I have ran for the Board of Directors for the last 2 elections and have been so close to being your next Board of Director. This year with 3 votes per tribal member, with your vote, I will be selected as your new Board of Director
